OWN Generation Submission Guidelines

OWN Generation situation ballerina writing

Your story is worth telling. Get the chance to empower and inspire our community when you share your experience with OWN Generation.

We are looking for meaningful original content about finding your purpose—whatever that means to you, whatever stage of your professional and personal life you’re currently at.

We accept personal essays, creative nonfiction, as well as visual or audio content and are open to a wide variety of subjects and themes. We are particularly interested in pieces that navigate the lifelong pursuit of fulfillment and how our family dynamics, friendships, relationships, hopes, joys, and dreams define and influence it.

While we don’t require a cover letter, please let us know what your work is all about.

All submissions must be made through this form. Work sent via email will not be entertained.

Once you’ve submitted your work, you’ll receive an automated response via email. However, this doesn’t mean that all submissions will be published. Your work will still be reviewed by the editorial team. As we are a very lean team, please understand that we will not be able to update you on the status of your submission. We will, however, inform you via email once your work has been published.

We accept work even if it has been published elsewhere, but please make sure that this doesn’t go against any existing agreement you might already have with other publishers or platforms. If you wish to withdraw your submission, please send an email with the subject “OWN Generation: Withdrawal of Submission” and the details of your work to [email protected].

Copyright of your work belongs to you, but please note that by submitting it to OWN Academy, you are giving us permission to publish it on the website as well as to repurpose it across its other platforms for marketing campaigns.

We do not keep work that will not be published. As soon as we make that decision, we will delete it from our archives within six months, so please make sure that you have copies of your own work.

We are open to all ages, professions, and interests. We look forward to reading your story.
