This Summer 2019, we are offering programs for ages 6-18! From stand up comedy to architecture, community engagement to internships, all our programs focus on hands-on learning in real world contexts. Students apply their learning in workshops, explore theory in site visits, develop their own final work with mentors, and present their projects to real client companies!
OWN High School Internship Program
Internship experience is now considered one of the top differentiators to employers and universities. We partner with 80+ companies to curate quality internship experiences for high school students. 3-days of skills training, social events with the intern cohort, 24/7 counsellor support, networking events, and more, our Summer Internship program is not only an internship placement, but a holistic program to support students as they engage in Real World Learning and gain exposure. Program will run July 8 – Aug 9. Regular applications close on May 1.
[Ages 6-8 and 9-12]
Junior Summer Real World Learning (JRWL)
OWN Academy is partnering with nonprofits and NGOs to guide students to develop their creativity and design skills while raising awareness for marginalized and vulnerable populations in our community. There are three design streams: Product Design, Graphic Design, and Architecture/Urban Design. Each design stream will run for one week with a final exhibition of student work at the end.
Summer Real World Learning (RWL)
In this program, we bring the real world into the classroom. Students work as a student consultancy to deliver on projects from real clients. The project week will include mentorship and skills training workshops with industry professionals, a real project solution to pitch back to a client company, and exposure to the design thinking process from plan to execution. The program will run for one week and will be held twice. The first session will run Aug 5 – 9 and the second session will run Aug 12 – 16, 2019. Early applications close May 1. Regular applications close June 1.
OWN x Vivek: Talking Funny
Through workshops and skills trainings, students will develop their creative thinking, problem solving, interpersonal and presentation skills by learning to improvise and deliver in stand up comedy.
