OWN Inspiration Fall Camp 2019 (Ages 10 – 13)

Fall break is a great time to pause after the start of the school year to realign, discover and grow. OWN Inspiration Fall Camp inspires students to build their OWN perspectives with new ideas, activities and relationships that they wouldn’t otherwise find in schools, homes or after-school programs.

Taking inspiration from the Finnish approach to learning, children are encouraged to learn about learning and engage in independent thinking. Unlike no other offered in Hong Kong. Our teachers and coaches are successful and driven industry professionals who offer OWN students the opportunity to step out of their comfort zones and learn in real-world settings.

Activities range from public speaking with a standup comedian, storytelling through film, design for a luxury fashion brand, and watersports such as standup paddleboarding and coasteering. The diverse activities give students an intensive experience allowing them to learn from different environments while triggering new passion and inspiration.

OWN Inspiration Camp by OWN Academy returns for the third fall! OWN Academy is an education innovation company that focuses on real-world learning by reengineering the what, how and where we learn. As we all know, traditional programs – students learn one topic, in one location for one week. Instead, OWN Inspiration Camp is designed to engage students with a different theme, experience and environment every day to expose them to new ideas and inspire their love of learning. More importantly, we take students outside of their comfort zone, challenge them and develop their character through new experiences and meeting new people.

OWN Inspiration Camp is designed based on OWN Academy’s’ ExCCEL formula – Exposure, Creativity, Consciousness, Entrepreneurship and Learn to Learn – these elements together are crucial in developing deep learning. Similarly, a lifelong learning mindset is a success factor of the future. Therefore, we travel throughout this camp to cultivate the idea that we can learn anywhere and everywhere. OWN Inspiration Camp focuses on designing the most powerful learning environments by finding the most inspiring professionals as teachers and making Hong Kong’s unique characteristics the backdrop of our classroom. With a strong focus on real-world learning, an out of classroom experience, integration with technology, we take a hands-on, experiential approach to trying new things and discovering oneself. Innovative learning is at the core of what we do, hence, we cover topics that builds the foundation for personal and professional development with Comedy, Entrepreneurship, Storytelling and Nature Adventure.

Throughout camp, we embed the development of 21st Century skills such as Entrepreneurship, Creativity, Teamwork, Mindfulness, Exploration, Analytical Thinking and Reflection among others. We focus on giving your child maximum exposure to a range of life skills that are not emphasized in the traditional classroom setting, but also encourages your child to fully exercise these life skills in different scenarios. More importantly, OWN Inspiration Camp is designed to ensure maximum enjoyment for your child!

OWN Inspiration Summer Camp

Theme 1: Personal Development through Nature Adventure
We start the camp by seeking adventure at one of Hong Kong’s most beautiful corners. This experience will be filled with activities including kayaking / stand up paddle boarding (SUP), snorkeling and even coasteering. Coastal surveillance will give us a first hand encounter of the plastic ocean problem in Hong Kong.  This overnight camp is a great opportunity to gain independence as well as life skills through various camp crafts.
Location: New Territories (TBC)
Time: 8am – 6pm (Overnight)

Theme 2:  Public Speaking with Comedy
Who doesn’t like a good laugh? Humor always leave a positive impression, yet humor is a technique that can be learnt. How can public speaking help us in our day to day lives? Local stand up comedian Vivek Mahbubani will lead students through the ways to present ideas clearly, speak confidently, and understand and connect with their audience. Through stand up comedy, students will learn how to think creatively for funny ideas, problem solve for the humorous point, develop interpersonal skills to connect with their listeners, and present themselves to communicate their ideas.
Location: Central / Sheung Wan / Kennedy Town (TBC)
Time: 10am – 4pm

Theme 3 – Storytelling as a Filmmaker
In today’s digital world we play the role of content consumers as well as content producers. With all the information we receive, we often simply remember a good story. Technology has democratized the power to share stories with the world.  Therefore, now, more than ever, anyone has the opportunity to stand out, spread a message, and make a change through storytelling. The same goes for students applying to schools or fresh graduates applying to jobs. Storytelling is a key to great communication and it will separate you from the crowd, making it a timeless skill. We will discover storytelling through visuals and create our own unique ending of a story.
Location: Central / Sheung Wan / Kennedy Town (TBC)
Time: 10am – 4pm

Theme 4: Entrepreneurship – From Idea to Reality
Find out what it means to be an entrepreneur, learn about the different types of businesses in today’s world and what is required to create a successful business. We go behind the scenes to find out how a business operates from ideation to store front as well as how products are made from design to production. Students will learn from Adam Raby, Mazu Resortwear’s founder, and experience the creative process of being a designer for a luxury apparel brand. Best of all, if students’ designs impresses Adam’s exquisite standard, one lucky design will be featured in the next season’s collection.
