This program will be postponed for a later date due to the recent Covid-19 updates in Hong Kong. We are looking to move this for Fall 2020. You may fill out the sign up form if you wish to join this program and we will keep you updated on the final details.

This summer, OWN Academy is collaborating with Development Bank of Singapore (DBS) and GreenPrice to bring a 2 day intensive bootcamp that gives students real world exposure and professional work experience. Students will find a solution for a business problem proposed by the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) at DBS, regarding the food waste in Hong Kong.

The CSR department at DBS is focused on sustainability, particularly on food waste in Hong Kong – but they want to reinforce their active involvement in resolving food waste to create shared value within the community. This is a complicated issue involving various stakeholders and a reduced budget due to COVID-19 – and DBS needs your help.

There are 3,648 tonnes of food waste being disposed of in landfills every day in Hong Kong. To solve this food waste problem, DBS has collaborated with GreenPrice, a social enterprise specialized in retailing surplus and short-dated stock. DBS wants to raise awareness of this project with GreenPrice to encourage DBS credit card holders to buy from the GreenPrice supermarket.

What do they need from you? A feasible solution and marketing program with a $100,000 HKD budget. For two days, you are part of the CSR team – it’s up to you to come up with an innovative idea to maximize impact with the reduced budget.

Students will present their solution in front of a panel of judges that includes the DBS Credit Card team, DBS CSR team, OWN Academy facilitators, and the GreenPrice supermarket. They will consider the implementation of the best, most viable solutions.

If you are a student looking for professional work experience, exclusive mentorship with DBS professionals, and involvement with resolving food waste in Hong Kong, this is the program for you. These intensive 2 days will be an invaluable opportunity to gain real world experience, critical thinking skills, and create real social impact.

This is a real world problem happening in the status quo that the CSR at DBS is trying to tackle – and they need bright-minded, creative students like YOU to help them.
